Today we're going to California to learn about the great ministry of our missionaries, Paul and Renee Persi. They serve in Orange County, less than five miles from Disneyland. But Paul and Renee serve in Stanton in an area included on travel posters.
Their part of town, around 25 miles southeast of Los Angeles, is where drugs, gangs and prostitution are major issues. In fact they organized their new church - which they call Group 99 Church - on a dirt lot outside a motel where drug addicts and prostitutes stay. Since then the church has moved on to a small storefront building. Once a month members provide a picnic meal for the homeless people who live in a nearby park.
Their church has been growing and is beginning to be accepted by people in the area. This is one of the few English-speaking, evangelical churches in the city. Paul knows California. He served at another Baptist church in the area for 15 years and has been studying at Gateway Seminary of the SBC, one of our six Southern Baptist seminaries in nearby Ontario. Note that our church supports Paul and Renee AND Gateway Seminary through our Cooperative Program giving.
Let's pray now for Paul and Renee and ask the Lord to bless their ministry and help their church to grow as increasing numbers of people - whatever their background - come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior.
