In this urgent call to prayer for Southern Baptists, it is absolutely critical that serious repentance be a central part of the emphasis. Unfortunately, many modern calls to prayer are somewhat lacking in deep examination and repentance. For this reason, there is often lessened impact toward true revival.
An ancient proverb states, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” The study of prayer journeys is one step to spiritual growth and renewal. A prayer journey can be defined as an intentional, coordinated effort to pray for and share Jesus with every person in a geographical or cultural community. It includes prayerwalking, biking, driving, flying, inline skating, and other forms of transportation. Prayer journeys help believers recognize the importance of prayer before witnessing and during outreach events.

Do you feel like you have two left feet when it comes to prayerwalking? Here are a few tips to help you get off on the right foot. Pray for Direction – Prayer originates with God, so talk with him about how to get started, “Call to me and I will answer you . . .” (Jer. 33:3), and where he would have you walk and pray. “. . . Your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it’” (Is. 30:21). Think of prayerwalking as a way to get to know God better by taking a walk with him.

Awaken is an invitation for you to fast and pray over the course of the next three weeks for a revival of God’s presence and work in your own life and church. The goal of that revival in you is for God’s glory to be revealed to a watching world that needs to know Him. When large numbers or high percentages of people are transformed by the gospel of Jesus Christ, spiritual awakening is the result. Communities change. Cities change. And yes, nations can change. Spiritual awakening is what we need in our nation, but revival of God’s people is a spiritual prerequisite.
Dear Friend in Christ, we are delighted that you will join us in prayer for spiritual revival and national renewal. Our nation is in need of both. Jesus declared that His followers are the salt of the earth and the light of the world (Matthew 5:13-16). We must become engaged in this battle for our nation’s soul. However, until as Christians we experience revival in our own lives, it will be extremely difficult to restore our nation’s moral foundations.
